System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled. "As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners," Kick wrote, "The more we worked on the game, the more we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great." As a result, Kick has decided the team should take a step back, stating that although the developer has been "totally committed to making a great game," the changes and increased scope of the game took the studio down "the wrong path." "I have put the team on a hiatus while we reassess our path so that we can return to our vision," Kick explained, "Please accept my personal assurance that we will be back and stronger than ever. In the hiatus announcement, Kick said during development, due in part to changing game engines from Unity to Unreal, and the team's subsequent ability and desire to " more," the team strayed "from the core concepts of the original title." The team went through changes, and the scope, concept, and budget for the game changed as well. System Shock 3s writer & director, lead programmer, design director and more have all confirmed their exit from OtherSide in the past 5 months. Nightdive Studios' CEO and founder Stephen Kick made the announcement on the game's Kickstarter page, assuring fans the game has not been cancelled, merely postponed, to give the team time to "return to vision" of the game.
